The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, created in 1983, names its first inductees.

Its (controversial, like the HOF itself) museum opens September 2, 1995 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Artist inductees for 2013 (ceremony on Apr 18): Heart, Albert King, Randy Newman, Public Enemy, Rush, and Donna Summer.

Brit indie rock band Arctic Monkeys release their CD album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (UK,AU,IR#1).

It includes UK#1 hits I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor and When the Sun Goes Down. While all the tracks were previously released for free on the Internet in late 2004, the CD sells 360,000 copies in one week … more than the rest of the top-20 combined … at the time the fastest UK seller ever.

It goes 4x platinum in the UK & is declared the album of the year by NME and Time Magazine. Three more albums have since reached UK#1, US top-20. The band has planned a break in 2012.
