People try to put us d-down (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Just because we get around
Things they do look awful c-c-cold
I hope I die before I get old

It’s widely regarded as one of the best live rock albums; Rolling Stone ranks it #170 of their Top 500.

Started as a play in Chicago, the musical version of Grease opens in off-Broadway in NYC at the Eden Theatre.
The story of ten 50s greasers moves to Broadway on June 7. Over seven years later it closes with a (then) record run of 3,388 performances.
The hit 1978 movie stars the odd couple of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The musical sees Broadway revivals in 1994 and 2007. A 2007 London revival runs for 4 years.

US singer Whitney Houston‘s eponymous first album is released. (*)
A slow climber, in 1986 it tops the album charts for 14 weeks (UK#2). Three of its songs climb to US#1!! … Saving All My Love For You , How Will I Know, and Greatest Love Of All.
Houston releases six more albums, selling over 200M worldwide — all but one are international top-10 hits — before her untimely death in 2012. Guiness calls her the most awarded female artist of all time.
