March 10 – Floyd’s Dark Side, Pistols resign, Under Rug Swept

1973

US release of eighth studio album Dark Side of the Moon by Brit prog/psych rock group Pink Floyd.
 
It’s one of the biggest-selling albums of all time. (US,CA,NZ#1, NL,IT,NO,UK#2) In the charts for 741 weeks, as of 1998 it’s sold over 15 million copies in the US alone. In 2003 Rolling Stone ranks it #43 of it’s Top 500 albums. Album

The prior 7 studio albums had been top-20s mostly in the UK and France. The following 6 (including 1979’s The Wall with its international #1 single Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 ) and 1995 live album Pulse (with a complete live DS performance) are all international top-5s.

1977

After label EMI quits them with part of their only album in the can, A&M Records signs English punks Sex Pistols in front of Buckingham Palace.
 
Never has so much rubbish been spilled over a band which made so little music. My Way  But — on the bright side — there’s PIL for afters. And even a UK#5 hit for sweet Johnnie. Not a Love Song

2002

Canadian alt rock singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette has a US#1, UK#2, 12-country #1 with her fifth album Under Rug Swept.
 
Selling 4M copies by 2004, the album is entirely written and produced by the artist. Hands Clean 
 
1995 third album Jagged Little Pill enjoyed the best reception, winning her the 1996 Grammy Award for Album of the Year at the age of 21. You Oughta Know  Ironic
