June 23 – Tom-Tom Club, Experience Music Project


Eponymous release of the first album by US new wave pop band Tom Tom Club, founded in 1980 by Talking Heads alumni Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz.
Second track Genius of Love becomes ‘one of the most sampled rhythm tracks of all time’ (the first song to use it was ‘Genius Rap’ (1981) , by Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde).
TTC becomes a favorite group in dance clubs of the early 1980s. Genius original club mix (7m)
